Job Description:
United Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) is searching for our next
EVP and Chief Development Officer (Chief Development Officer) to
continue our work in our Second Century of serving the people of
Tarrant County. UWTC is seeking a dynamic leader who can
compellingly articulate our mission and vision to increase our
fundraising initiatives and invite people throughout the community
to join us in the work we are performing to improve the lives of
residents throughout Tarrant County.UWTC brings people together to
build strong communities where everyone thrives. As a nonprofit
leader, we help communities tackle tough challenges and work with
private, public, and nonprofit partners to boost education,
financial stability, and health resources. We also serve as the
regional grantee for Tarrant County's Area Agency on Aging (AAA),
invest in and maintain a cooperative relationship with the state's
2-1-1 call center and provide support to local veterans, active
military personnel and their families through our partnership with
the Texas Veterans Network. United Way of Tarrant County and AAA
employ approximately 80 people dedicated to our mission. We
celebrated our 100th anniversary in 2022 and are ready to serve
Tarrant County for years to come.Position Summary: The EVP and
Chief Development Officer provides leadership, strategic vision,
and direction to the organization in the areas of workplace
campaigns, marketing, major gifts, resource development planning,
collaboration and management, volunteer engagement, and Days of
Caring program supervision. The Chief Development Officer works
closely with the Executive Team and across the organization to
communicate key impact messages that demonstrate measurable and
effective results as evidenced by an increase in community and
donor investments.Reporting Relationships: The Chief Development
Officer reports directly to the President and CEO and oversees the
Development Team.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and evaluate the Community Investment, Development
department, donor relations, impact grants, marketing, and
workplace campaigns.
- Collaborate with the President and CEO to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with key volunteers and
donors.
- Develop and analyze statistical measurements of the annual
campaign.
- Recruit, develop and manage a high-level volunteer Campaign
Cabinet.
- Manage the staffing levels and workload distribution for the
Community Investment department, personnel recruitment, management,
development, recognition, and retention.
- Monitor and track major changes in the marketplace, both
philanthropic and economic, and provide strategic direction.
- Collaborate with Executive Team members to develop and
implement the organizational strategic plan.
- Develop and manage annual division budget and the allocation of
the budget within the Community Investment department.
- Work in partnership to develop a United Way case strategy and
to incorporate impact messages in all aspects of volunteer and
staff training, as well as printed materials.
- Oversee management of the database system used to maintain
donor information.
- Supervise the administration of United Way's Volunteer
Engagement and Day of Caring program that matches volunteers with
appropriate community service projects and opportunities.
- Promote and monitor year-round customer sensitivity, as well as
practice effective cultivation and account management within the
marketplace.
- Work in partnership with area United Ways to maximize United
Way of Tarrant County's resource development efforts.
- Set agendas, support volunteer leadership, and promote
attendance at key leadership meetings.
- Additional projects as assigned.Essential Knowledge, Skills,
and Abilities:
- Must be eligible to work in the United States (No
Sponsorship).
- Master level degree preferred in a related field.
- 10+ years of experience with demonstrated success in a
management level business development/fundraising function
(managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources),
preferably within a non-profit organization.
- 5+ years of experience in leading, coaching and developing
direct report staff.
- 5+ years of fundraising management experience at a non-profit
and a demonstrated track record of accomplishments within a similar
role.
- High energy and passion for United Way's mission is
essential.
- Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing
donor relationships over time.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with
the ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and
build effective long-term relationships.
- Ability to construct, articulate, and implement the annual
strategic development plan.
- Strong ability to translate business objectives and strategies
to develop plans to facilitate organizational growth in the area of
resource development.
- A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work
independently and as a team player to take initiative and to manage
multiple projects simultaneously.
- Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively
impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.
